Departing from Puno on September 30 for the first solar circumnavigation of Lake Titicaca, PlanetSolar II has now begun the return journey! After visiting the Island of the Moon, the scientific expedition stopped at the Island of the Sun — a symbolic stop, as the Moon and the Sun are the two Inca deities of Lake Titicaca.
PlanetSolar II recharged its batteries on this island free of cars and motorcycles, where a Telemundo reporter came aboard to film a report. The stopover also allowed the crew to complete the paperwork needed to return to Peru.
However, the expedition faced strong headwinds and rough waters. With no shelter in sight, turning back would have delayed the 39 planned water samplings. To avoid getting trapped, our solar vessel had to be temporarily towed — a first for Raphaël Domjan.
