PlanetSolar in Calvià, Mallorca

Hello Everyone,

When we posted our last blog, Eric, our captain, was happily sailing among the dolphins between Barcelona and the Island of Mallorca. We barely arrived in Port Adriano in Calvia on June 25 that our stopover in the Balearic Islands is already coming to an end. The two past weeks really went smoothly thanks to the warm welcome of the representatives of Port Adriano and Immosolar, our partner on the premises. We jointly organised a press conference on board, during which we were very honoured to welcome José Ignacio Aguilo Fuster, vice-president of the Balearic Islands. He stressed again the importance of innovating projects such as PlanetSolar, he also compared the ship to a « mobile laboratory». Many thanks for visiting us.

The Island of Mallorca, paradise for holidaymakers (Germans in particular), offers amazing landscapes with the Iberian lifestyle as well as a public very interested in our ship and renewable energies. Many engineers, naval architects or just curious people came to see the ship and have a chat with the crew.

4th of July, a new crew member comes on board. Cyril, electrical engineer from Switzerland. He will be responsible for all electrical matters on board the Tûranor. Welcome! We wish you will have an amazing experience on board this extraordinary ship !

Back in Switzerland, the onshore crew is still working. Of course, the atmosphere is less « caliente » than the one in Mallorca! Although the temperature was rather tropical in the Maison d’Ailleurs of Yverdon-les-Bains, on this Friday June 29 … The representatives of the city of Yverdon-les-Bains, the Northern Vaud Development Association (ADNV), the Maison d’Ailleurs,  Yverdon Science and Technology Park (Y-Parc), School of Business and Engineering Vaud (HEIG-VD) and the Economic Promotion Vaud (SPECo), officially presented us with the Jules Vernes short note. They all support the Planet Solar project to different extent. This short note was embarked on board PlanetSolar during the 19 month world tour. Marc Atallah, director of the Maison d’Ailleurs, has acquired this handwritten text which is dated May 23 1891. He kept it safe in his museum. What a beautiful symbol, this hundred-year-old text, written by the hand of Jules Verne inspired Raphaël Domjan a lot. It really is very symbolic that it was present all the way during the first world tour with solar energy !

The ship will soon head to Cagliari, in Sardinia. We hope that the navigation will be pleasant and the crew will see some dolphins, tortoises or other creatures again, all curious to see this silent sea giant coming.

See you soon for the stopover in Sardinia,
Florence for the team of PlanetSolar
