After a 12 days long stopover and the Spanish victory over France at the Euro 2012, we are finally sailing off with the sounds of firecracker still resounding in our heads…
Being two steps away from Christopher Colombus statue was quite symbolic…This also brought back some good memories. Indeed, two years ago, PlanetSolar sailed at the exact same place. The mains leader of the project, Mr Immo Stroeher, and the team which gave birth to this adventure, Raphael Domjan, Patrick Marchesseau, Christian and Jens, all remember the warm welcome they had back then, and also all the doubts related to the start of this world tour…
He did it, he covered 32 000 nautical miles… the same way Christopher Colombus did. A lot was at stake for both of them while preparing their journey through the Atlantic Ocean : Make the impossible possible ! With this sentence in mind :
” It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that things are difficult…”
We left early in the morning as the weather was good. The sea is very calm. Our ancestors were afraid of such weathers, no wind, no waves… However, PlanetSolar really likes that kind of sea compared to a rough and stormy sea.
The view is simply breathtaking: tortoises and dolphins swimming around us, a swordfish jumping out of the water…Given the intense underwater activity, we decide to start fishing.. Thomas and Etienne are dealing with the fishing rods ! The young chef is cooking a delicious salad with potatoes and tuna as well as a home-made apple pie.
We opened a few solar panels, we are having an optimal yield. The batteries are constantly charged up to 90%!
We sailed during 24 hours at an average speed of 5 knots to finally reach the island of Mallorca, where we are expected in Calvia in Port Adriano for our next stopover ! It will be a very busy time, press conference, solar events with the support of our partner ImmoSolar… needless to say it will not be boring !
See you soon for new adventures
